Football
Football was started by a group of like-minded girls and teachers in 2013. As interest and commitment in the sport grew, Football became a full CCA in 2016.
The CCA aims to provide MGS girls who have an interest in Football with the opportunity and pathway to grow and develop their passion and skills in an inclusive and supportive environment.
MGS Football nurtures and grows its members to be confident and outstanding young leaders who can work well with others, and who are resilient, determined and fun-loving. Members not only develop their technical skills, but also learn how to work as a team tactically. The student leaders, coaches and teachers continually strengthen the team camaraderie to build lasting memories and foster bonds between each individual member.
Football CCA’s philosophy is to create a full year-round programme that provides multiple pathways and opportunities to MGS girls of all abilities as well as drive interest and love for Football and an active lifestyle. The CCA works with FAS, schools and other partners to cater to its developmental and competitive programmes.
In line with its philosophy, MGS Football participates in the National School Games (B and C Division), and organises/participates in Football Carnivals with other secondary schools as well as other developmental competitions such as the FAS U14 League. Tuesdays and Thursdays are training days and there are often football friendlies on either Monday, Wednesday or Friday.
In November 2022, Methodist Girls’ School joined Unleash the Roar, Singapore Football Academy. This was to raise interest amongst girls and the quality of skills in girls’ soccer. With this new journey, we then began our Centre-based Partnership Programme with Boon Lay Secondary School and Westwood Secondary School in January 2023. The centred-based football team seeks to hone talents in the female football scene and to encourage social mixing with the other cluster schools. This paved our journey and led to the introduction of Direct School Admission in 2023 for girls’ football.
